URARA TSUCHIYA

Urara Tsuchiya is a UK-based Japanese artist working mainly with performance, video, and live events, often incorporating soft sculpture, costumes, ceramics and home cooking. These function as props to set up an alternate environment for out of the ordinary behaviours to take place. Her playful ceramics cleverly couch disturbing scenes in humor, toying with the sexual boundaries between human and animal relations.

ABOUT THE WORK:

Tsuchiya unabashedly approaches the relationship between human and animal in these ceramic bowls. In her characteristically naïve style, she creates slightly childish, wildly fantastical orgies between various genders and species—monkeys and manatees become the bedmates of humans who wear masks and take dick pics. These imaginary menageries function as miniature rooms for pleasure play.
